Realism

Roses

One thing that I am known for is Realistic Roses on hands. It seemed like I did one rose and I then found myself flooded with messages asking for a similar thing. I do love a good rose hand banger.

I’ve always said that a rose is a good way for an artist to show their skill. The amount of detail in a rose can be insane. The quick changes in shades and texture, the shadows casted from one petal from another can really be a test for a lot of artists. If you don’t do them correctly, they can very quickly start to look wrong or 2 dimensional.

Plus when it comes to sleeves and filling space a rose is always a good way to fill gaps in a sleeve. They don’t follow a theme which makes them perfect.

Pegasus Tattoo by PHughesTattoo

Pegasus

When doing a mythical creature you will often find they you do have a small amount of artistic freedom. It’s down to the artist to say what they think the creature would look like.

Doing this Pegasus tattoo was extremely fun for me. I absolutely love to tattoo horses as there is so much going on in their faces, and for me, the more detail the better. The muscles and bones creating shadows and deeper areas of interest in the face.

I think that when an artist does this kind of tattoo it can be so satisfying to see it take shape and come to life.

This IS sparta

Sometimes civilisations from across history do something that echos long enough to speak to people in the present day on a deeper level. Sometimes enough for them to get sleeve tattoos dedicated to the notoriety of those people.

When doing this kind of work it’s always important for the artist to do those people justice and tell their story.

This specific piece is part of a much bigger sleeve and hopefully one day soon I can post the full Greek sleeve tattoo.
